Gulf Coast : neon photos were taken in 2004, pre-Katrina. the coast was flattened. i returned in 2007 to find many powerful signs of life.

Alma Sugar Mill : Shot December 2004. Alma Plantation's sugar mill is one of the oldest and last surviving mills in Louisiana. The process of making sugar is quite mysterious and amazing. During grind season, the mill operates continuously 24 hours a day to stay ahead of the winter freeze. It is a very special place. Many thanks to Ms. Margie Bell Stewart for granting me permission to photograph Alma, to Brandon Parlange who was kind enough to accompany me, and to all the good people there who endured my wandering that chilly evening.

Urban Art :

San Miguel : I visited San Miguel de Allende in October of 2003. Mom and our friends Renee and Anne shared Rhea Gary's charming condo in the heart of the city. I'd just acquired a Cannon 10D, my first "grown up" digital camera, and had lots of fun experimenting. Many of the photos ended up in a solo show at St. Joseph's and also at the Baton Rouge Arts Council gallery. After shooting in black and white for so many years, San Miguel was just the place to explore color!

Carribean : November 2004 family cruise.

New Orleans Post Katrina : I visited New Orleans October 16th and 22nd, 7 and 8 weeks post Katrina. October is one of the loveliest months in south Louisiana. The golden light and clear, cool air truly belied the devastation. But amidst the ruins, there was still beauty and a determined spirit.

Spain : A few photos taken in the historic port city, Puerto Santa Maria, in the Andalusia province of Spain. I was in Spain for the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez.
